Another Useless Blog

Zam On January - 11 - 2010

I’ve been busy with my mom still in the hospital. I sleep there until my mom gonna be discharged next week. So i dont hv much time to continue working on my halo armor. There’s some progress but very slow. Here’s today progress. Left shin has been bondo’ed and test fitted. Fit like a glove ! Left thigh have to done some sizing modifications since the height is too much. The width is just nice. Had to cut quite alot of the bottom part so i can get better movement with that piece on. Still alot of work to be done. Also in the picture gallery is my nephew Halo1 Marine thigh piece. Took him 5 hours to assemble that pieces together !

can you explain to me how the whole process goes, i wanna build one, when you get time of course. hope mom gets well

    • Zam says:

Hey Justin. Its quite simple actually.

      1. You download your Pepakura plan for the character you wanted to make (Must have Pepakura Viewer or Designer to open the file)

      2. Build up your pepakura plans using 160GSM cardstock paper or in my case 200GSM Neon Card

      3. Cover your pepakura piece on the OUTSIDE with fiberglass resin + hardener and let it dry

      4. Fiberglass you pepakura piece on the INSIDE with fiberglass mat + resin + hardener and let it dry

      5. Bondo on the outside to cover all the imperfections, let it dry

      6. Sand it and bondo again until you get a smooth surface or just let it uneven, chips for more realistic battle damage

      7. Let it dry and paint …..dry .. layer ..dry .. layer …

      8. straps would be the last step ..

      9. wear it, go search for some aliens and kick their butts ..

for more details, you can go to http://www.405th.com .. they are costuming community for Halo characters .. Owh thanks for your concern.. my mom is getting better and was discharged yesterday noon… (^_^)

Lookin’ good mate, I was a little confused that you were making your helmet and you had it on on your head in one of the pics. But then I just realized it was your old one. I forgot to ask, what colour will your new armour be?

    • Zam says:

Lol … yeah .. the one im wearing is the old one. The one im building is the new helm. It gonna look almost identical but with a little extra details.

i just bought a ultra flat camo green..i think i gonna go with that one. the current green is too glossy.
